Confirm that the status truly says “delivered,” review its time, location and photo, then check every safe drop area, household member, neighbor, mailroom and locker. If it is still missing, follow the carrier’s official missing-package path and notify the seller.
Work through these checks in order
-
1
Confirm the exact tracking status
“Out for delivery,” “awaiting delivery scan,” “delivered to agent” and “delivered” do not mean the same thing. Note the timestamp and any named delivery location.
-
2
Check the delivery photo or note
UPS and FedEx may provide photo proof for eligible deliveries. Compare doors, porch materials, apartment numbers and nearby landmarks rather than only looking for the box.
-
3
Search the safe locations
Look at every exterior door, behind planters or furniture, beside the garage, in a parcel locker, at the front desk and in the mailroom. Carriers often choose a location that keeps a package out of sight or weather.
-
4
Ask people nearby
Check with household members, coworkers, building staff and immediate neighbors. Use the delivery photo or location note to make the question specific.
-
5
Open the official carrier path
If the package is still missing, use the tracking number on the carrier’s official site. Report the issue or start the service request it recommends for that shipment.
What delivery proof can tell you
Proof of delivery varies by carrier and service. It may include a timestamp, photo, signature name, GPS-informed location, locker or pickup-point status, or a note such as “front door” or “garage.” Not every package includes every detail.
If the photo is not your property
Save the image and compare it with nearby doors or buildings. Do not enter private property or confront someone. Report the mismatch through the carrier or seller so it can be investigated.
If someone signed for it
Check whether a building employee, receptionist, household member or authorized agent accepted the delivery. If the name is unfamiliar, include that detail in the carrier report.
If it went to a pickup location
“Delivered to UPS Access Point,” “available for pickup” and parcel-locker statuses mean the package may be waiting away from your door. Follow the pickup instructions and bring any required identification or release code.
Carrier-specific next steps
UPS
UPS recommends checking exterior doors, the porch, patio or garage, and asking anyone who may have picked up the package, including a neighbor. If it remains missing, UPS directs recipients to contact the seller to begin a claim. Open UPS Tracking Support.
USPS
USPS records the delivery date, time and location and recommends checking safe locations when a delivered package cannot be found. Its status-help page connects to service requests, Missing Mail and claim options when eligible. Open USPS Tracking Status Help.
FedEx
FedEx recommends reviewing picture proof of delivery when available. Its tracking page can expose a “Manage Delivery” option to report a missing package. Open FedEx Tracking Help.
DHL
DHL routes support by tracking number and business unit. Enter the number on its customer-service page to find the correct shipment contact. Open DHL Customer Service.
Keep the full delivery timeline close.
Shipments organizes carrier checkpoints, available delivery details and status notifications in one place, so you have the context ready when something looks wrong.

Save the evidence before a tracking page changes or a photo becomes harder to retrieve:
- the full tracking number and carrier;
- the order confirmation and merchant order number;
- a screenshot of the delivered status, time and location;
- the delivery photo or signature detail, if available;
- a description and value of the contents; and
- the date and result of each conversation with the carrier or seller.
The seller may need to start the carrier claim because it purchased the shipping service. Other carriers and services allow the recipient to submit a request. Follow the instructions attached to that specific tracking number rather than assuming every claim works the same way.
Use the carrier’s official website or app. Do not pay a surprise “redelivery fee” through an unsolicited text message or email link.
Shipments is not affiliated with the carriers named in this guide. It organizes carrier-provided tracking information but does not deliver packages or decide claims.
